Down by the Rail Yards

Just a couple of blocks from where we live are the Stratford rail yards.  It was foggy this morning, adding an air of mystery to the place.

Autumn Harvest

Just a little of the bounty that’s available in farmer’s markets right now.  Autumn is a wonderful time of year for food lovers!

Downie Street

The really cool thing about Stratford is that from certain angles it looks like you’re in a big city.  But then you turn the corner and you’re in a small town. 

This block of buildings is on Downie Street.  Originally, the bit on the corner was the Eaton’s Department Store, now subdivided into shops and offices.

Waterloo Stratford Campus Helps Out at Savour Stratford

Last Monday night, we went to the Waterloo Stratford Campus open house.  They gave out name-tags on University of Waterloo lanyards.  We took ours home, thinking they might come in handy some day soon.  Little did we know…

Very early Saturday morning, we were helping to set up some tents for Savour Stratford.  One of the tents was missing one of the clips to hold the cover to the pole.  It was so windy, this could have been a problem.

Alan reached into his pocket, pulled out the lanyard and voila!  Problem solved!

Savour Stratford – Sunday Edition

We helped out at Savour Stratford again today, handing out programmes at the Waterloo Street entrance.  Here’s Alan in his savoury orange apron.

We had lots of fun greeting and chatting with people.  We’re already looking forward to next year!

Setting Up For Savour Stratford

We were up bright and early this morning for our shift helping to set up the site for Savour Stratford.

On our way back from putting together one of the tents, we saw Robert Pel of RKilts setting up his booth.  Asked if we could take a picture, he willingly posed.  Thanks Robert!

A Purple Flower Garden

Downtown, between a parking lot and a busy street, blooms this beautiful purple garden.

Getting Ready for Savour Stratford

We’ll be volunteering at Savour Stratford this weekend, so we went to the orientation session last night at City Hall.

Waterloo Stratford Open House

The University of Waterloo Stratford Campus hosted an open house last night.  We went to check it out and take some pictures.  The place was buzzing!

Our Saturday morning tradition is to shop at the Stratford Farmers Market and then come home to a yummy blow-out of a breakfast on the back deck.

The Swan

The swan is a beautiful bird, elegant and graceful when on the water (slightly less so on land).

Just remember to back away slowly if one starts hissing at you. Despite appearances and any desires we may have to be friends, the swan is still a wild animal.

How to See Stratford

We call it The Walking Man Tour and the rules are very simple.  Whenever you come to an intersection, you follow the walking man.

This works even better in bigger cities.  Keep a map handy to find your way home again and just follow the walking man to places you might not otherwise find.

A New School Year Dawns

Mother Nature sure has a wicked sense of humour.

The entire Labour Day weekend was cold and wet.  Today dawned hot, sunny and brilliant!

It’s been a quiet weekend round here.  Barb’s been sick (nothing serious) and Alan’s just plain tired from a busy summer cooking at the Parlour.

We had a spell of really hot dry weather over the last week or so.  That ended early this morning.
