Between the Squalls

Sunny!!!!

Another one from yesterday.  It was like this all day - moments of blinding brilliance interspersed with absolute whiteouts.  Seriously, even as a pedestrian, visibility was a huge problem and that almost never happens.

It seems calmer out there now, thankfully.

Squalling

Looks like a blizzard to me....

At the corner of Mornington and Graff around 9:00 this morning. The weather report called for squalls, which are defined as: a sudden, violent gust of wind, often accompanied by rain, snow, or sleet. Also: to cry loudly, which is what a certain daily photo blogger tends to do when she has to go out in this weather.

But all is well. Movies have been brought in and there is wine in the house. Now we just have to unplug the phone, plump up the pillows and ignore the whole thing.

A note to our Stratford-area readers: This Sunday at 2:00 PM, there will be a benefit concert at Zion Lutheran Church (202 Erie Street) for Haitian Disaster Relief. All funds raised will be matched by the Canadian government, which makes us want to be especially generous.

Hope to see you there!

Cold Day

Stratford City Hall

The wind is howling and we've had more snow.

Here's a picture from a sunnier day.  It's the roofline of Stratford City Hall.

January Blahs

Winter in Stratford

It's cold and grey and horrifying out there.

In other words, it's the end of January and our ability to cope is in short supply.  Barring an unexpected opportunity to go someplace sunny and warm, this is where we'll be riding out the storm.  Note the cozy blanket.

Windows

Up above Blowes'

Rows of windows above Blowes' Stationery. All the curtains match, which makes me wonder if anyone actually lives up there or if the space is being used for storage.

Steps

Buildings in Stratford's downtown

We often joke that walking (or cycling) anywhere in Stratford means heading uphill and into the wind.  It doesn't really look that hilly, until you notice that the buildings downtown are stepped, to accommodate the change in ground level.

Ice Formations

Freezing rain on Monday night, followed by a light snowfall last night and a brilliant, sunny, cold day today gave us this: icy white trees against a clear blue sky. Almost makes me like Winter!

This is being posted from Alan's computer, since Barb's is 'having issues'. The screen won't light up at all, which makes it really hard to know what the silly thing is doing. So posting may be sporadic, or just odd-looking for the next little while. Thank you for your patience.

Brickwork

Looking up in downtown Stratford

Just some interesting brickwork on a couple of old buildings downtown.  I especially like the flower motif.

Market Square

The parking meters of Market Square - just waiting for their chance to shine....

Maybe I've been to a few too many musicals through the years, but I look at the way these parking meters are lined up and I think, Wow!

Can't you just picture a song and dance number breaking out along here?

That Damp Patch Means the Snow's Melting!

The Three Houses in Stratford

It's a blindingly bright day here, with a warm breeze blowing.  Snow is melting all over town, including on this post out in front of The Three Houses.

Sunrise

Good Morning Sunshine!

We had a beautiful sunrise this morning, so I ran right out and took a picture.  It was still and quiet, with little flakes of snow drifting down from the sky.

That's how most of the snow has fallen this winter - quietly, unobtrusively.  Easy to ignore....

Here's What it Really Looks Like

A pretty yellow house

Here's the yellow house from last week, without any adjustments to the colour.  I think it's much prettier in real life.
