We Interrupt Dinner

Dinner and a Show

A cloud appeared over Alan’s head during dinner last night (eaten outdoors this time of year).  Barb got the camera and took pictures while Alan checked his emails.

Which normally never happens during a meal, but cloud formations and Daily Photos wait for no one…

Crenellations

Is that a castle I see

It’s so lovely to look up on a Monday morning and see a castle among the trees.

(actually, it’s this building, but it’s nice to dream…)

The Magic Toy Shop of Dr. Coppelius

Props!

Our friend Jayne took part in Setting the Scene, a two week set design workshop at Factory 163.  On Friday afternoon, there was an open house: Setting the Scene, The Magic Toy Shop of Dr. Coppelius.

Room after room of amazing sets and props and things that moved.  It was truly incredible.  Jayne made this chef’s head, with no prior prop-making experience.

There are other workshops in the near future.

Quiet Reflection - 2

Bavaria, perhaps

Moving the camera a little to the left from yesterday and it’s like we’re in a whole different country again!

Quiet Reflection

Ancient Greece or downtown Stratford

On quiet mornings when the lake is still, the reflections go on forever and you can feel like you’re in a different part of the world altogether.

Improv Sculpture

Down by the water, early in the morning

OK.  It’s really not nice to pile the picnic tables up so no one else can use them.

But it does have a compelling, sculptural quality, doesn’t it?

At the Auction

What am I bid

Most Tuesdays you can find us down at Stock Auctions, hunting for treasures and watching the fun.

The Feast of Saint Duck

Duck sculpture watches over the ducks

Beside the path along the river, carved into the top of an old willow tree is this sculpture of a duck.

We don’t know who did it, but it appears to be watching over the real ducks down below.

Heirloom Tomatoes

The Slow Food Market at Monforte Dairy

We went to the Slow Food Market on the grounds of Monforte Dairy today.  Lots and lots of yummy foods there, including these gorgeous organic heirloom tomatoes.

I just had to take a picture….

The Slow Food Market runs every Sunday from June to October, 10 am till 2 pm.  Monforte Dairy is at 49 Griffith Road.  Definitely worth a look if you haven’t been yet.

The Conductor

Nikolai conducting the Tivoli Boy's Guard Band

He wants to be a bassoonist.  If he’s as good at that as he is at conducting…

Summer Music – The Tivoli Boy’s Guard Band

The Tivoli Boy's Guard Band

Stratford Summer Music is approaching its final weekend.  Yesterday’s free Barge Music concert was by the Tivoli Boy’s Guard Band.

They marched through town and down to the river and dazzled the crowd with their talent.  The oldest is sixteen, the youngest is eight!  The conductor is amazing.

Best part?  They’re appearing again at noon today.  And noon and three tomorrow.  Definitely worth getting out to see.

The City Daily Photo rule is ‘one and only one photo every day’.  So I’ve posted a slideshow here.

It’s Begun!

Past Present and Future

Walking past the site of the University of Waterloo Stratford Campus the other day, I heard a lot of noise.  The earth movers are in and work has begun!  The excitement is palpable.

I was pleased with this shot showing the old Cooper Site (former locomotive repair shops) and the sign for the future campus with the bulldozer.

Art in The Park

Melissa Schooley setting out her beautiful porcelain

Every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting, from June through September, a group of artists sets up in the green space along Lakeside Drive.  Art in the Park features painters, potters, jewellers and more.

They were setting up this morning and Melissa Schooley of Raging Bowl Pottery kindly let me take her picture.

I hate to be the one to mention it, but Christmas will be upon us before you know it.  You might want to head on down to the Park to get some early shopping done.

We’re working on our list right now….

Nomming and Snoozing

Nomnomnom zzzz....

How handy would it be to be so small and clean that your bed and your dinner are one and the same thing???

As soon as I took this picture, the little guy crawled under the leaf as if he was pulling the blankets over his head.

Life Among the Trees

What a lovely balcony...

We live in a main-floor apartment, which has about a million things to recommend it.

But sometimes I do miss that “life among the trees” feeling that places like this must surely have….

Stratford Summer Music

Dancing to the music of Swamperella

On my way to a consulting gig yesterday, I walked past a Stratford Summer Music venue.

The little guy in yellow was totally into it, dancing up a storm in time to the music of Swamperella.

Doesn’t the little girl in the pink skirt look like she’d so love to join in?

Duggan Place

Duggan Place B&B

When we first moved to Stratford, we lived here, in the attic apartment with the tiny round window.

It’s a B&B now.

Keystone Alley Cafe

DSC09438

We went here for dinner last night.  Out in the courtyard, under the awning is a magical place.  Add good food, friendly service and great friends to share it with and you’ve got a night to remember!

Optimism

The weather forecast predicts rain.  The skies are overcast.  Yet our backyard neighbours have hung their laundry out to dry….

A New Day Dawns

DSC09297

It’s been awhile.  And we’ve really missed you.  But we’re back now and hoping you’re all well.

This picture was taken on an early morning walk past the soccer fields in front of the main theatre.
